Today is a bigger sewing day than yesterday but its all very easy, so lets get started.
Yesterdays "Homework Assignment" was the cutting requirements for Day 2 but if you didn't have time, here's a recap:
- 2 x 1 1/2" x 15" strips
- 1 x 1 1/2" x 7" strip
- 2 x 2 1/2" x 19" strips
- 1 x 3 1/2" x 15" strip
- 2 x 2 1/2" x 7" strips
- 1 x 1 1/2" x 19" strip
We are working with the 7" blue and white strips first today.
Step 1: Sew a blue 2 1/2" x 7" strip to either long side of the white 1 1/2" x 7" strip, pressing seams towards the blue strips to yield one rectangle which should measure 5 1/2" x 7" when complete.
Step 2: Trim and square up one end of the rectangle and then cross cut units at 1 1/2" intervals. You will need to cut 4 of these units and each unit should measure 1 1/2" x 5 1/2".
Next we are working with the 15" blue and white strips.
Step 3: Sew a white 1 1/2" x 15" strip to either long side of the blue 3 1/2" x 15" strip, pressing seams towards the blue strip to yield one rectangle which should measure 5 1/2" x 15" when complete.
Step 4: Trim and square up one end of the rectangle and then cross cut units at 1 1/2" intervals. You will need to cut 9 of these units and each unit should measure 1 1/2" x 5 1/2".
Step 5: Sew one of these units to the top and bottom of each of the four units made at Step 2, along the long sides and pressing the seams open. Units should measure 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" when complete.
Lastly we are working with the 19" blue and white strips.
Step 6: Sew a white 2 1/2" x 19" strip to either long side of the blue 1 1/2" x 19" strip, pressing seams towards the blue strip to yield one rectangle which should measure 5 1/2" x 19" when complete.
Step 7: Trim and square up one end of the rectangle and then cross cut units at 1 1/2" intervals. You will need to cut 12 of these units and each unit should measure 1 1/2" x 5 1/2".
Step 8: Sew one of these units to the top and bottom of each of the four units made at Step 5, along the long sides and pressing the seams open to yield four blocks which should each measure 5 1/2" square when complete.
Now its time for your next "Homework Assignment":
If you get time throughout the day, cut your fabrics ready for tomorrow and you'll be all set to sew.
I hope you had a fun sewing day today. Any ideas on what we are sewing yet? No matter, your one step closer to solving the mystery :)
